Vermouthing

With the arrival of summer, the streets are steeped in positivism and good humour, thanks to the nice climate offered by the Mediterranean coast. The trees get filled by green leaves, the sun coats the buildings and terraces are protagonists again: an ideal time to go out for a drink, and to resume the art of “vermouthing”.

The classics come back, and what became out-of-date are fashionable again, just as in the case of vermouth, the typical Sunday plan in the 60s and 70s, which in recent years has reappeared to settle as what it is: a real tradition. “Vermouthing” is a very common activity among locals, to meet with friends or family, and which adds more and more followers. What is normal, having in mind that all you have to do is having a good drink, accompanied by a good appetiser and surrounded by your own. Who can say no to a plan like that?

The name comes from the vermouth, a wine macerated in herbs and served during the appetiser, although nowadays, when the natives say “to have the vermouth”, they refer to the midday appetiser, before having lunch. In order to harmonize the nip, the drink is usually accompanied by some olives, cockles, crisps or fuet tapitas… ideal also to taste typical Mediterranean products.

If you want to enjoy a real vermouth, you cannot miss the opportunity to visit specialized locals, where you can taste an authentic vermouth in a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere with your own. In addition, you can accompany it with exquisite carefully prepared tapas, from the most modern ones to the traditional and delicious olives.
