Museu de l’Art Prohibit

The Museu de l’Art Prohibit is the first museum that exhibits works that have been censored, attacked, denounced. It is located in the Garriga Nogués house, a building declared of cultural interest, an architectural jewel of modernist inspiration from the beginning of the 20th century.

Discover the Museum of Forbidden Art

Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of censored and forbidden art at the Museu de l’Art Prohibit, a cultural gem located in the Casa Garriga Nogués in the heart of Barcelona's Eixample district. This unique museum, created by entrepreneur and journalist Tatxo Benet, houses a one-of-a-kind collection of over 200 works that have been censored, banned, or attacked for political, social, or religious reasons.

An Unparalleled Collection

Within its walls, the museum showcases works by world-renowned artists such as Francisco de Goya, Gustav Klimt, Pablo Picasso, Ai Weiwei, and Robert Mapplethorpe. These pieces, once removed from public exhibition, are now presented in an environment that promotes freedom of expression and challenges established norms.

A Provocative and Reflective Journey

In the 2000 square meters of the Museu de l’Art Prohibit, visitors can explore a path that evokes both the scandalous nature of the exhibited works and their ironic and liberating side. The experience is complemented by digital tools that enhance understanding and enjoyment of the displayed pieces, offering a full immersion into the context of each work and its history of censorship.

A Space for Creative Freedom

The mission of the Museu de l’Art Prohibit is to return to the public the possibility of seeing works that were set aside, allowing them to breathe in front of them and reflect on the limits of freedom of expression in art. This space not only exhibits art but also serves as a laboratory to address acts of censorship in the arts.

A Must-See Visit

Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the Museu de l’Art Prohibit and discover a collection that stands out not only for the quality and diversity of its pieces but also for its ability to provoke and make you reflect.
