Monument

Peix (Fish), by Frank Gehry

One of the symbols of post-Olympic Barcelona. The sun is reflected on the golden scales of this fish-shaped sculpture that dominates the maritime façade of the Olympic port and the squares of Barcelona.

The Fish monument, also known as El Peix in Catalan, is an impressive stainless steel sculpture located on Barceloneta beach. Designed by American architect Frank Gehry, the monument has become one of the city's most iconic landmarks.

The sculpture was commissioned by the organisers of the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games with the aim of improving the beach area and attracting more tourists. Gehry accepted the challenge of designing a structure that would be a tribute to the city, and chose the shape of a fish as inspiration, as fishing and the beach are an important part of Catalan culture.

The stainless steel structure of the Peix is enormous, measuring 56 metres long and 35 metres high. The steel curves and twists to create a shape that resembles a giant fish in full motion. The reflective surface of the monument creates an impressive effect when it reflects the sunlight and the Mediterranean Sea.

The Peix is located on the Barceloneta promenade, right in front of the Hotel Arts Barcelona, one of the city's most luxurious hotels. Many tourists stop in the area to take pictures of the monument or simply to admire it from a distance.

Although the monument is impressive from any angle, it is especially impressive to see it from the sea. Many tourists enjoy a boat ride along the coast of Barcelona to see the Peix and other famous monuments of the city from a different perspective.

The Fish is a masterpiece of architecture and design, and has become an important part of Barcelona's culture. The sculpture is an example of Gehry's distinctive style, which is characterised by curved, organic forms. His work has been highly influential in the world of architecture and has won many awards and accolades.

The Fish is an impressive work of art and an icon of the city of Barcelona. Its unique shape and location on the beach make it a popular tourist attraction and an important landmark for locals. The sculpture is a perfect example of how architecture and design can enhance the beauty of a place and enrich the visitor experience. If you get the chance to visit Barcelona, be sure to stop by Barceloneta beach to see The Fish in person.
