Eixample Gràcia

The Passeig de Gràcia became the main artery of the Eixample as soon as it began to be built and the well-off families, who chose this route as it was the way to the old village of Gràcia and Collserola – where some of them had their summer residences -, competed in aesthetic refinement turning the area into an outdoor modernism museum. Gràcia was absorbed by the growing Barcelona but it still preserves its own personality, with its narrow streets, its bustling squares and a rich associative fabric. Even its local festival (Festes de Gràcia, in mid August), in which its streets are richly decorated, competes in importance with the biggest party in the city (La Mercè, at the end of September).
